Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so awful that you can't help but burst out chuckling. It's like your brain tries to understand the sheer magnitude of destruction and just throws its hands up, opting for amusement as a coping strategy.

But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain terrible. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a groan.

Awful Day Ever

It all started with the case of bedhead hair. I couldn't make it to look presentable. As I was running out the door, I stumbled and dropped my lunch all over myself. To make matters worse, I was extremely behind schedule for school.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
